One of New York’s most popular electronic music venues, Brooklyn Mirage<\/a>, has reinvented itself multiple times over the past decade. Its latest transformation, revealed today, is its most ambitious redesign yet.<\/p>\n

“The Brooklyn Mirage has always been a place to dance, to lose oneself in moments of pure, electrifying energy,\u201d said Josh Wyatt, who took over as CEO of Avant Gardner last fall. “When we decided to rebuild the venue from the ground up, we aimed to honor its legacy while expanding the dancefloor, creating immersive side-quest spaces, and pushing the boundaries of music, art and technology.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooklyn Mirage\u2019s signature, sprawling LED wall is undergoing a major transformation. Its span has been extended to envelop even more of the venue’s dancefloor, resulting in 270\u00b0 of virtual immersion powered by 100 million pixels and over 3,000 tiles with a combined 30K resolution.<\/p>\n

Despite its extension, the LED wall won\u2019t be a permanent fixture for shows at Brooklyn Mirage. A fully kinetic shutter system\u2014the first of its kind at this scale in a live music venue\u2014will control the wall\u2019s visibility. With the shutters drawn, the venue harkens back to the early years of Brooklyn Mirage, a time when the venue had no screens at all.<\/p>\n

Shuttering the video wall isn\u2019t just a nostalgic sentiment though. It\u2019s an architectural innovation that means the venue can dynamically transform from show to show.<\/p>\n

With a 90-foot wide stage area and an industry-leading 400,000-pound roof rigging capacity, artists will have unparalleled creative control of the production elements and visual identity of their performances. The space can shift from an arena-style show to a stripped-down, intimate concert, offering a level of flexibility rarely seen in nightlife.<\/p>\n

“The New Mirage will be everything fans worldwide love about this space\u2014while delivering a completely new, mind-blowing sensory experience,” Wyatt says. “New York City deserves a venue that evolves with the culture, and that\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re creating.”<\/p>\n

Brooklyn Mirage 2025 Redesign (0:39) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Accompanying the visual overhaul, Brooklyn Mirage has revamped its sound setup with a custom-built system from L-Acoustics, an industry-leading audio solutions company that powers the sound of some of the world\u2019s biggest music festivals, like Tomorrowland and Ultra. Over 100 precision-calibrated speakers and subwoofers will be strategically placed throughout the venue, which means\u00a0the sound should be crisp and balanced whether you\u2019re raging on the rails or hanging at the back.<\/p>\n

Inspired by operatic grandeur, the dancefloor itself is undergoing a makeover as well. With an expansion of over 40 feet and removal of production elements and columns, the floor will have more space, improved crowd-flow and better sight-lines to the stage.<\/p>\n

New loges, balconies and mezzanines have also been constructed, morphing the Mirage into an electronic opera house. The second and third mezzanine levels will be open to all attendees but the elevated loges lining the sides of the dancefloor will be used for VIP and table service during some shows.<\/p>\n

In a pioneering effort of sustainability, the event space is built with heavy timber instead of steel or aluminum. Measuring 197 by 164 feet and soaring 65 feet high, the new Brooklyn Mirage is one of the largest timber builds of its kind in the US.<\/p>\n

These visual, sound and architectural overhauls will be accompanied by an array of cultural, logistical and operational improvements<\/a> as well. “This is not just an upgrade\u2014it\u2019s a rebirth,” Wyatt says.<\/p>\n

With over 100 shows already on the calendar, Brooklyn Mirage kicks off its 2025 season on May 1st.\u00a0Alesso, Peggy Gou,\u00a0Underworld,\u00a0Empire of the Sun and The Chainsmokers are set to perform this year, among others.<\/p>\n
